Mr Locks are able to open, replace and fit locks on all wooden doors; we can also upgrade your locks to comply with BS3621 and your insurance company requirements. Most wooden doors will have either a Yale type lock or a 5 lever deadlock or both.
Mr Locks stock a complete range of Yale, Union, ERA, Legge and BS 3621 kite marked nightlatches, including some less familiar makes such as Ingersoll and Banham. These types of locks are normally fitted towards the top of a door and lock automatically when the door is closed, restricting access from the outside. However, they can be opened from the inside normally using a finger turn to retract the latch and open the door.
A 5 lever mortise lock is also known as a deadlock or some people refer to it as a chubb lock. This type of lock normally has a long back door type key and once locked cannot be opened from either side of the door without using the key. A 5 lever sashlock is the same standard but has a handle operated latch in addition to the deadbolt.
Historically a BS 3621 Kitemarked lock would always have been a chubb type 5 lever mortise deadlock. However, in recent years several manufacturers have designed nightlatch type locks that can also be deadlocked from both sides of the door and have achieved the same security levels of a mortise deadlock, hence they also been tested and awarded the BS3621 Kitemark which is considered the benchmark by insurance companies.
PVC door locks are also known as Multipoint Locking Systems. Most are lever operated which means that when you push the handle up several deadbolts, Hooks or rollers engage to secure the door. These are then locked in position by a key operated lock cylinder, and cannot be opened from either side of the door without using the key.
Aluminium Door locks are more commonly found on commercial buildings such as shops, factories and business premises. However, they can also be fitted to people's homes. They can be a combination of any of the above lock types, such as: Deadlocks, nightlatches or multipoint locking systems. However, the most common type of aluminium door lock would be an Adams Rite deadlocking latch or hookbolt lock.
